LAR

Athletic for a big man his size. Footwork in pass pro is exquisite. Experienced as a four year starter at left tackle. Multisport athlete. Football IQ is very good. Has gone up against some of the best of FCS and thrived. Road grader in the run game. Hands are plus plus.

Weaknessess

Like many blockers his size, he has trouble maintaining leverage against smaller rushers. Resets well but has been seen frequently getting pushed back into the pocket. Upper body and lower body don't seem to connect often. Lost in space as defenders can get around him and he can't adjust.

Big Picture

Himmelman is the rare prospect that has declared for the draft and is playing this spring in the return to football for the FCS. He has the tools and the phyiscal profile to be selected on Day 3 and become a swing tackle. Sure he needs more technical refinement but the reps he is getting (albeit against weaker competition) are invaluable in knocking off the rust after the fall cancellations. However, there is a distinct possiblity that he will need a "redshirt year" regardless of physical development due to the amount of football played in such a short span.

Athleticism:

7.2

7.25

He moves well for a man his size. Displays above average flexibility and lateral agility when he has to move to pull. Shows very poorly balance, getting frequently knocked off his stride. Strength is above average and he does show the traits of a road grader in the run game. Explosion is adequate when accounting for his size. Plays very quick in the run game more than the pass game.

Big Play Ability

Fascinating in line blocker with his power. Above average in moving off the ball when he pulls. Has some difficulty adjusting in space due to a lack of real athleticism and defenders easily slip past his attempts. Possesses a powerful punch when he locks on. Understands the concepts of pulling and adjusting spatially but in execution, it's a mixed bag. The hands are his calling card in the run game as defenders rarely ever get away when he's able to get them.

Pass Blocking:

6.42

Fires into the quick set at an above average clip. There are times that he's very susceptible to the the more bendy edge rushers due to being out leveraged by his height. Has great feet due to multisport background, particularly basketball. Mirrors the defender very well with him being light and quick on his feet. Anchors and resets relatively well but lower body has some issues connecting to upper body. Hands in the pass game are just as adept as it is in the run game. Doesn't get beat by the inside move often.

Competitiveness:

Toughness isn't an issue as he can road grade and maul defenders through sheer size. Is very consistent throughout each rep even if it isn't the best rep. A physical player which is expected.

Intelligence:

Positional versatility is muted due to the fact of his size and experience at tackle. Guards aren't that size typically. Handles edge rushers with aplomb. Communicates on combo blocks and passes off assignments with little drop off.
