Good hands, plucks balland tucks away quickly. Decent catch radius and adjust well to misplaced throws. Gets good release off the line. Understands angles well to maneuver away from defenders after the catch. Good strength to hold up blocks on the edge or drive defenders off the line when he gets a fit
Lacks the athleticism to be a consistent offensive option. Too often throws a shoulder out and lunges to block instead of getting a fit and driving. Rounds off too many routes and doesn't create much separation. Seems to run out of steam on deeper routes and later in games. Looks to move before securing catch at time leading to drops.
Wydermyer was a three year starter for the Aggies where he earned SEC All Freshman team honors and was two time 2nd Team All SEC. He ended up as the Texas A&M leader in receptions, yards, and TDs for tight ends. Wydermyer excels finding holes in zone coverage. He is not the most athletic target but still finds a way to create YAC with decent acceleration and a bit of shiftiness. Is a really solid blocker but needs to be disciplined with his technique. Despite that he does not project to a starting tight end at the next level and does not offer much versatility. He can be a nice depth tight end and work in sub packages especially in the red zone where he can use his frame and catch radius to box out defenders. Should be a good value pick on day three of the draft.
