Strengths

Sam LaPorta is athletic as he has strong lateral agility and while he is not the fastest player on the field, he can be explosive. LaPorta has decent flexibility when making a catch. LaPorta can be dependable with his smooth route running, ability to create separation, and with his catch radius. He is a willing blocker that is decent when he is a pass blocker and can give the QB extra time in the pocket. He plays with a lot of aggression, toughness and has a motor. He also has a strong catch point mentality and will do anything to make the catch. LaPorta plays with good instincts and has strong play awareness. LaPorta is versatile as he was lined up as a slot receiver on occasion as well as at Tight End.

Weaknessess

The only weakness when looking at his athleticism is his play strength and it is showcased in the way he blocks. He has solid hands, but has a habit of relying on his body making the catch. His release can be slow and sloppy at times as well. LaPorta is not a good blocker as he does not have the best technique with how he utilizes his hands and is inconsistent with his leg drive during blocks. LaPorta is a terrible run blocker especially when he blocks in space. Durability could be a concern due to dealing with nagging Lower Leg issues in the 2022 season.

I have LaPorta as a 3rd/4th Round Prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft.
