This could be one of the most over-matched bowl games on paper. App. State is a fringe New Year’s Six team if it weren’t for an upset by Georgia Southern. UAB did not beat anyone with real credentials. Their four losses were from the toughest four teams on their schedule (W. Kentucky, S. Miss, Tennessee, and Fla. Atlantic). UAB could be in even more trouble if Tyler Johnston is not available at quarterback.
The Degenerate Menace Says: When you look at the strength of schedule only, the best team that UAB beat all year was Louisiana Tech. App. State has beaten two Power Five schools en-route to a 12-1 record. I have a hard time believing that the score will be that much different from the number that Florida Atlantic put up on UAB in the C-USA Championship game.
