Strengths

Picking at #7 overall has its challenges due to likely having the option of either a solid RB1 or an elite WR1. I always prefer to take a running back in Round 1 if possible, and with David Johnson still on the board, I couldn’t pass it up. I believe this is the year Johnson gets back to his 2016 breakout form in Kliff Kingsbury’s new offense. People seem to view Johnson’s 2018 season as underwhelming, though he finished RB10 in what was no doubt the worst offense in the league. They may not consistently feed him 20+ times in the run game like many fantasy owners might hope, but with a pretty porous offensive line, Kyler Murray will be dumping it off to Johnson quite often, boosting his fantasy numbers exponentially.

Grabbing Josh Jacobs in Round 4 was a bit of a risk but could very well pay off as Jacobs has the potential to be a 3-down workhorse in Oakland. We saw what he did with the limited workload he received at Alabama, being very efficient in that role. The Raiders might not give him the backfield reigns early on in the season, but if he’s producing there should be no one stopping him from getting more touches.

LeSean McCoy in Round 9 was a steal in my opinion. Even though he isn’t the same player he once was and will likely be in a committee with Frank Gore and Devin Singletary, he can still produce and this is great value as one of my bench players. My other three running back selections were just depth picks: Ekeler in the 12th, Breida in the 13th, and in Round 15 I decided to cuff David Johnson with Chase Edmunds. If something were to happen to David Johnson or Melvin Gordon, I’d want the guys on their respective team who would see the highest increase in touches.

If you have Travis Kelce on your team, he will absolutely be one of your top and most consistent scorers. With questions regarding Tyreek Hill’s future, taking Kelce in the middle of the second round is completely fine with me, especially after taking my RB1 in the first round for some solid foundation.

Weaknesses

I wouldn’t necessarily call my wide receiver group a weakness, but it does lack top end talent, unlike some of my other position groups. Grabbing guys like Stefon Diggs (3rd), Alshon Jeffery (5th), Will Fuller (6th), Marvin Jones (7th), Courtland Sutton (8th), and Donte Moncrief (14th) in the early-middle rounds gave me some nice depth at the position, but I’m ultimately missing a guy I can rely on weekly to produce as a WR1. Diggs is a very talented player but isn’t even the #1 receiving threat on his team, and Kirk Cousins was a little underwhelming during his first year in Minnesota. Jeffery is also a talented player, but over the past few seasons it feels like there is a low ceiling when it comes to his fantasy production, and he always comes with injury concerns; adding DeSean Jackson to this core doesn’t help my case here either. Will Fuller is a very intriguing player who has meshed well with DeShaun Watson in the limited time they have had together due to injuries; this is a high-risk, high-reward pick. Marvin Jones and Courtland Sutton are both depth picks but have the ability to be viable starting fantasy options. This is my last chance on Donte Moncrief, and 14th round flyer won’t hurt if he doesn’t pan out. However, if he can win the #2 receiver job, Pittsburgh has a nice looking list of players who have thrived in that role.

Kicker and Defense

Taking a kicker before the last round is ludicrous. Most of the time when drafting kickers, I just try to find a guy who plays on a team with a high scoring offense who will be on the plus side of the field more often than not. Gostkowski is a model of consistency and fits that mold since you know he plays on the Patriots and they have Tom Brady.

Jacksonville still has one of the most talented defenses in the NFL on paper, even though they were tied for 14th in fantasy points last season. I’m feeling a bounce back year from Jalen Ramsey and Co. The offense last year was destroyed by injuries and Blake Bortles was just bad, so the defense was forced to be out on the field for a lot longer than they should have.
