Athleticism: 7.40

Q.A.B./C.O.D. 6.50 He has a quick short burst, but slows down later in his run, C.O.D. can be slow.  Flexibility 7.50 Showed off flexibility by his ability to dip underneath lineman to get around for sack.  Explosiveness 8.00 He has good explosion out of his stance, uses it to his advantage for his punch.  Playing Speed 7.00 Looked slow at times, couldn’t close space, speed RBs were a problem.  Coordination 8.00 He has control of his body, forced, picked fumble for a touchdown with ease.

Pass Rush Ability 7.55

Initial Quickness 7.75 He has a great first burst, it allows him to get leverage, and be able to get push.  Use of Hands 8.00 He punches, uses strength, can get underneath then toss lineman to get around.  Leverage 7.00 He looks amazing when he gets the advantage, has times where he is stood up.  Pass Rush Moves 7.50 He has some great moves to get by, if he develops more, he could be dominant.  Finish Ability 7.50 When he sees an opening, he closes down on the QB, has an occasional miss.

Competes: 7.67

Toughness 8.00 He keeps on fighting, if even he has lost the battle, loves to hit people.  Consistency/Motor 7.00 He needs to be more consistent, sometimes looks great, then off on other plays.  Production 8.00 He has played since he was a freshman, 21.5 career sacks, 3 FF this season.

Against The Run 7.46

Play with Leverage 7.00 He would get leverage then shed for tackle, then had times he would get pancaked.  Stack and Shed 7.50 He used his long arms and strength to his advantage, kept space, then made plays.  Gap Shooting Ability 8.00 He would fill his gap quickly, he has a big body that would help fill up lanes.  Run at Him 7.75 He would get rid of the lineman so he could make the tackle. Looked to make a play  Run Away 6.50 He struggled closing any space on outside runs, struggled with this.  Tackling/Hitting 8.00 He loved to hit, wraps up, he also would try to run through the runner.

Intelligence: 7.67

Instincts 7.00 He would react to things slowly at times, looked like he would get confused.  Learn/Retain 8.00 He showed some progress since he was a Freshman to Senior year.  Teamwork 8.00 He made sure to bring his best throughout the game, wanted to make a play.

STRENGTHS

He is a long and strong defensive end that would help anchor a side of a defensive line. He has a great burst, that he uses to his advantage to get a push on the lineman. He also has a variety of moves to get around tackles for the sack. He loves to hit, wraps up, and wants to run through runner/quarterback.

WEAKNESSES

He can be on and off at times. He needs to find more consistency. Plays with a high shoulder pad level, this allows running backs to stand him up or lineman to pancake him. He is more built for a 4–3 defense. Might be scheme dependent.

BIG PICTURE

Davenport has the ability to come in and develop into one of the best defensive ends in the league. He just looks like NFL player, the problem is there are times he looks like an average player. He will need to develop as a player. He has shown he has the ability to progress, he got better since his Freshman year, and also showed development throughout his week at the Senior Bowl. He can come in as a rookie and contribute to a defense. He has enough strength and pass rush moves to make an impact versus the pass and run. I do believe he is more of a fit for a 4–3 defense even though he stood up during his time in college. He may need to adjust with his hand on the ground. I think he has late 1st round talent, could possibly get him early in the 2nd.
