The second full week of college football is upon us, and hopefully, the teams have gotten most of the kinks worked out (I am talking to you, Southeastern Conference!) Here at the Chateau de Menace, the results were pretty good for the top-10 picks, going 7-3 in Week One. Not bad without the use of the spreadsheets. Now, we are playing for keeps. Here are the Degen Men Ten for college:

  1. Michigan (-22.5) vs Army- So what if two of the three losses from last week involved these teams?! I’m thinking that if Army could only score 14 against Rice of all teams, they would be hard-pressed to score 10 on the Big Blue. I would be surprised if this game went over 47.5.

  2. Colorado (+4) vs Nebraska- What was up with the Cornhuskers against South Alabama? Unless the weather is bad, the winner might be the team with the ball last. Colorado could be sneaky good this year, meaning this could be another contest to take the over on as well.

  3. Wisconsin (-35) vs Central Michigan- Here is what the computer is seeing: the Badgers defeat South Florida by 49 in Tampa, while Central Michigan defeats FCS Albany 38-21. Yeah, this could get ugly.

  4. Appalachian State (-22.5) vs Charlotte- App. State is going to be one team that bettors will probably ride with for most of the season. They’re going to be awfully strong in the Sun Belt this year.

  5. Illinois (-21) vs Connecticut- I am trying to figure out if UConn is better or worse than Akron. Then I see that the Husky opener was a 24-21 victory against…Wagner. Hopefully, the defense and the quarterback play continue for the Illini.

  6. Wyoming (-7) at Texas State- This game can go one of two ways: either the Cowboys can continue their great play as they did against Missouri or they drop a turd in the punch bowl against Texas State. The computer sides with a big Wyoming win.

  7. Kansas (-7.5) vs Coastal Carolina- It’s Les Miles, right? I mean, sure he can’t exactly eat the FieldTurf. I understand that they were given all they could handle by Indiana State. But it’s Les Miles, right?

  8. Penn State (-29.5) vs Buffalo- The Bulls lost a lot of offense this year through graduation. That said, Buffalo did rush for 280 yards against Robert Morris, but Penn State dropped 79 points against an ex-FBS foe in Idaho.

  9. North Carolina (+3.5) vs Miami(FL)- There are still plenty of good seats left on the Mack Brown Express! As mentioned in yesterday’s article, the line in this game dropped from 6 to 3.5. Miami’s offensive line will prove porous again and North Carolina could very well be 2-0 after this game is over.

  10. Washington (-14) vs California- Georgia transfer Jacob Eason threw for 349 yards and four touchdowns against Eastern Washington and could be the best quarterback Chris Petersen has ever coached. Meanwhile, California could only muster 27 points against UC-Davis. This could be a blowout.

As a bonus, here are four personal guesses for Week One of the NFL. I’m sure they will be much better once the old laptop gets involved:

  1. Philadelphia (-9.5) vs. Washington- As a Washington Redskins supporter, I have already prepared myself for a 2-14 season. There will be a bloodbath in Philly.

  2. Minnesota (-3.5) vs. Atlanta- My take on this: the Falcons really stink against good defenses. Throw in a little drama with the Julio Jones contract extension failure to launch means I’m taking the Vikings by ~10.

  3. Houston (+7) at New Orleans- Both teams are playoff teams from a year ago. I just have a hard time believing that New Orleans will win by more than a touchdown.

  4. Dallas (-7) vs New York Giants- Two words: ELI MANNING. You’re welcome.

Last week’s record: 24-18 (57%)

Degen Men Ten: 7-3 (70%)
