Now before we dive into the recap, here are some of the notable players that did not play due to injury/rest. (I will not be putting players that are currently on the PUP List so Ashtyn Davis, Vinny Curry, and Kyle Philips won't appear on this list.)

DT Sheldon Rankins (Rest) CB Bless Austin (Rest)

S Lamarcus Joyner (Rest)

Green Bay Packers:

QB Jordan Love (Shoulder) The entire starting Defense

WR Devin Funchess (Hamstring)

Reminder: It is the preseason and I will be breaking down the performance of each position. Let's dive into the recap of the Jets and Packers second preseason game.

Quarterbacks

New York Jets:

Zach Wilson once again was very impressive in this game. He made some really solid throws to Corey Davis and even had two solid passing touchdowns. Keep in mind a majority of the Green Bay Packers starters on defense did not play but if he keeps this up then Joe Douglas hit a home run with this pick. Mike White was then called in as the second quarterback. Mike White wasn't as good as he was in the first preseason game but was not awful. White did leave the game due to a rib injury but I think that he got the wind knocked out of him because he did walk to the sidelines. Hopefully Mike White did not suffer a serious injury. James Morgan did not do much at all in this game. In fact I think he only threw the ball once in this game. Josh Johnson surprisingly did not play vs the Green Bay Packers but I have a theory that his role will mainly be what David Garrard's tenure with the Jets was. Remember David Garrard one of the best QB’s the Jaguars have ever had in franchise history excluding Mark Brunell. Garrard was mainly signed to the Jets as a player to guide rookie Quarterback Geno Smith throughout his rookie season. Sadly Geno Smith didn’t work out and even became a cancer in the locker room when IK Enemkpali punched him in the face, which pretty much ended his starting career with the Jets as he immediately became the backup. Johnson is mainly there to guide Zach Wilson through his rookie journey

Green Bay Packers:

Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love did not play in this game. This was the Kurt Benkert show as he started almost every drive except for the last one. I got to be honest he heavily impressed me throughout this game. He made some excellent throws throughout this game including a touchdown to Jace Sternberger. He even made some nice moves to avoid pressure from John Franklin-Myers. He even was solid picking up a fumble and running almost for a first down. If he keeps this performance up he could be good trade bait for a QB needy team looking for a backup. The Green Bay Packers could get future draft capital or they could even keep three quarterbacks on the roster if Jordan Love is still hurt or he continues to struggle in the next few weeks.

Running Backs

New York Jets:

The Jets running backs were okay tonight. Tevin Coleman made his New York Jets preseason debut with the team and did not have too many carries with the team. With the four carries he had he was decent in his performance. Ty Johnson and La’Mical Perine had a meh level performance as they did not impress but they were not awful in this game. The best running back tonight was Michael Carter who made some nice runs including an 18 yard run. Carter was even solid on special teams. The starting running back and third down back battle is getting close and it will be interesting who will win the battles. The most surprising part of the running backs involves Josh Adams. Josh Adams was not even given a carry in this game. Time is ticking for Josh Adams' tenure with the New York Jets.

Green Bay Packers:

Easily the best performers of the team. AJ Dillon has heavily impressed me throughout his tenure with the Packers and while he only got 4 carries was very impressive. A player that I called a hidden gem of the 2021 NFL Draft was RB Kylin Hill as he ran a 12 yard touchdown where he had nice jukes throughout the game. He is a player to watch for the future if Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon both get injured. Patrick Taylor had the most carries on the team and performed well. He even had a nice catch in the game as well. Dexter Williams was solid as well when he made some nice runs during the 4th quarter. The running backs put up a good performance and were easily the biggest positive for the team during the game vs the Jets.

Wide Receiver

New York Jets:

Corey Davis has become Zach Wilson’s favorite target throughout the preseason and has performed very well. He is definitely a player you should take in fantasy. Crowder’s fantasy stock is a little down but should be the #2 receiver for this team. Berrios had two catches for 17 yards. I got to be honest, Berrios is terrible on offense as he has poor balance, hands, and runs poor routes. If Berrios is kept on the roster, I would mainly put him on special teams. Even then Berrios wasn’t good on special teams as well vs the Packers. Vyncint Smith, Keelan Cole, and DJ Montgomery had quiet games. But, overall the receivers performed very well vs the Packers.

Green Bay Packers:

Almost every starting receiver did not play for the Packers as Matt LaFleur doesn't want any injuries to occur with their top receivers. There are two players that were impressive during the game. The first is Amari Rodgers who the team chose in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He looked pretty solid with the team but to me he would fit more as a slot receiver as he ran better routes in the slot then running longer routes. The second receiver is Malik Taylor who had a solid job exposing the Jets corners. He had amazing pass catching techniques, was a solid route runner, and even was a solid route runner. Even though the receiver core for the team is full, if he keeps this up he could be on the 53 man roster or on a practice squad.

Tight Ends

New York Jets:

Compared to last week, this performance was a lot better. Why? Well one tight end actually showed up to play. That player was Tyler Kroft. He had a total of two catches and both went for touchdowns. He was solid with his footwork, strong hands and is a smooth route runner. He was the only positive in a terrible tight end crew. Chris Herndon as always continues to struggle. He lacks awareness throughout the game and is a terrible route runner. He is also getting worse with blocking as he missed multiple blocks and even let defenders go through to make tackles to running backs. Why was he the starting tight end for the team again? Griffin was out due to a nagging hamstring injury. Kenny Yeboah once again struggled in this game. To me the hype for him is slowly fading away. Daniel Brown was mainly utilized on special teams. The tight end core is still a complete mess and I would completely avoid any tight ends on this roster in fantasy. At least Kroft showed up to play.

Green Bay Packers:

Not going to say much as the Packers two best tight ends did not play. I do want to talk about one tight end, Jace Sternberger. He had an up and down game but mainly had more negatives than positives. I got to say that Sternberger is a terrible blocking tight end and allowed a lot of pressure to the quarterback. Sternberger had a terrible drop on third down which later led the team to punt the ball where if caught the team could have gotten three points with a field goal. At least he scored a touchdown, which is a big positive for him.

Offensive Line

New York Jets:

The Jets were decent on the offensive line but struggled in this game especially with run blocking as they couldn't open any holes. Greg Van Rotern and Corey Levin of the Jets heavily struggled in this game as they missed multiple blocks throughout the game. Levin even allowed a big sack that caused Mike White to suffer an injury and leave the game. The O-line needs to do a better job pass protecting the quarterback next game. Conor McDermott was carted off with a knee injury which is never a good sign. Hopefully he is okay but I would not be shocked if he was out for a while.

Green Bay Packers:

The Packers did a solid job blocking especially with run blocking as they continued to open up holes all day for the running backs. A player on the Packers offensive line that has struggled a lot is Lucas Patrick. Yikes he had a terrible performance as he let a lot of run stoppers come through. Also he was seen tripping the quarterback multiple times. He had terrible penalties that he committed throughout the game as well. He needs a good game next week if he wants to stay on the roster. Also, the centers in this game were terrible including Jake Hanson and Coy Cronk as they kept over snapping and under snapping the football all game which led to Kurt Benkert almost losing the football. They need to improve if they want to make the roster.

Defensive Line

New York Jets:

The defensive line was up and down for the Jets in this game. Some moments they were good while others they weren't. The defense needs to improve with their run defense as AJ Dillon, Kylin Hill, and Patrick Taylor ran all over them throughout this game. Tanzel Smart was not good in this game and running backs ran all over him. Bryce Huff continues to show how impressive he is as he provided pressure to the quarterback and made brilliant plays. Hamilcar Rashed Jr. once again was impressive as he made some solid tackles throughout this game. I was scared when Rashed was shaken up in the middle of the game but luckily his injury is not serious. Again I got to ask the weekly question to everybody. Has anyone seen Jabari Zuniga? The guy once again disappeared. He wasn’t out due to injury and when there was an appearance of him on the field, all he did was struggle. He did not even record a tackle in this game. At this point I would just cut him. He is not getting better, he struggled in training camp and he is failing to make an impact on the field. By the way this is another reminder that the New York Jets and GM Joe Douglas wasted a third round pick on Jabari Zungia.

Green Bay Packers:

Again a chunk of the starters did not play due to injury but the defensive line did a solid job. They stopped the running backs and even provided pressure to the QB. A player that impressed me was Jack Heflin who had 4 tackles but what impressed me is how he provided pressure to the QB. A name to watch if you are a Packers fan is TJ Slaton who had a big impact in providing pressure to the quarterback and had solid pass rushing techniques as well. Slaton even was a solid run stopper and was seen plugging in holes. If he keeps this up he should be in good shape to make the 53 man roster.

Linebackers

New York Jets:

CJ Mosley did a good job in this game stopping the run as he was seen plugging holes and even was seen blitzing to provide pressure to the quarterback. The experimental players Jamien Sherwood and Hamsah Nasirildeen both performed well in this game. Both had some really good tackles. Sherwood was more impressive than Nasirildeen as he shined with recovering a fumble and had some solid special teams play throughout the game. Even Camilo Eifler was impressive and made some nice run stops throughout the game. Jarrad Davis has suffered an ankle injury and did walk to the sidelines which I thought was a good sign. Until news came out that he was later carted off to the locker room which is not a good sign. Hopefully Jarrad Davis will be okay and the injury is not as severe as originally thought.

Green Bay Packers:

Nothing much to say for the Linebackers for the Packers as a majority of them did not play due to rest. I will admit Isaiah McDuffie showed some flashes in this game but he needs to improve on coverage as he struggled a lot. Kamal Martin also struggled throughout the game with his coverage and even looked lost during defensive plays. He is going to need to show improvement if he wants to make the 53 man roster or secure a practice squad spot.

Cornerbacks

New York Jets:

The cornerbacks were once again the weakest party of the defense. The corners mainly struggled throughout this game. Bryce Hall was terrible in coverage, letting a wide open Jace Sternberger wide open for a touchdown. Lamar Jackson continues to struggle as he struggles with one on one coverage. Even though he had a nice INT he was in double coverage and Dolegala completely underthrew the football. The biggest disappointment was with undrafted free agent Isaiah Dunn. He was terrible throughout this game and was bad in coverage. He even missed a few tackles on occasion as well. The one corner who performed well was Brandon Echols who had a nice interception and performed well in coverage, often shutting some receivers down. Overall not the worst performance but the Jets seriously need to improve the cornerbacks before the first regular season game occurs.

Green Bay Packers:

Yikes, you talk about a negative: we have the cornerbacks for this team. The good news is none of the starters played in this. The one player that was absolutely terrible was Kaion Ento as he was terrible in coverage, letting players like Tyler Kroft and Braxton Berrios make catches. He even had poor footwork and lacked awareness when trying to make tackles. He is going to need to improve next week if he wants to make the 53 man roster. The only cornerback that was good this game was Eric Stokes, the first round pick for the team during the 2021 NFL Draft. He had nice deflections and was shutting down receivers on occasion. He did have a hiccup when he allowed a 25 yard catch by Jets WR Corey Davis. If he keeps this up he could become a starter for the team.

Safety

New York Jets:

Nothing really much to say for the safeties on the Jets as Joyner and Davis did not play but they did a very good job vs the Giants. Marcus Maye did play in this game and did well. Sharood Neasmen once again was impressive in this game. If he keeps this up he should make the 53 man roster. JT Hassell even showed flashes and had a sack in this game.

Green Bay Packers:

Both starting safeties Savage and Amos were out due to injuries. The safeties were decent in this game including Henry Black who made some good tackles to stop the running game from making a long run. But they did their job well in this game.

Special Teams

New York Jets:

I want to start by congratulating Kicker Matt Amendola for a great performance. He made 5 kicks (3 FG and 2 PAT’s). His field goals impressed me as he made field goals 54, 46, and 30 yards out. He heavily impressed me and solidified a spot on the roster with those kicks. The question is, will his momentum continue? Corey Ballentine finally flashed with a 73 yard kick return for the Jets which is a huge positive for him. Even RB Michael Carter flashed on special teams. Berrios, however struggled

Green Bay Packers:

Nothing much to say about the special teams as Crosby only made two PAT kicks for the Packers. Reggie Bagelton and Dexter Williams showed some flashes with their returns in punts and kicks. But man they seriously need to improve on their kick coverage as they allowed Corey Ballentine to run all over them and even Michael Carter had a few decent returns. I do worry a little for Punter JK Scott as he did whiff on a few punts. He is going to need a strong game next week to solidify his roster spot.

The New York Jets had a strong performance in their 23-14 victory against the Green Bay Packers. Hopefully the Jets can keep performing well against the Philadelphia Eagles in Metlife Stadium on August 27th for their final preseason matchup.
