On August 22th, 2022 the New York Jets will be playing their 2nd preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. With the roster now shortened to 85 players it is not going to be enough as there are still 32 more players that need to be cut. I think it would be a good idea to give my 2nd 53 man roster prediction. In this I have labeled players as either Locks, Made Roster, or Cut. If a player is labeled as a Lock then there is a 0% chance that they will be getting cut. If they are labeled as made roster, well they then made the roster. Now if they are labeled as a Cut, well then they are off the team. So let's get this started by looking at the Jets Offense.

Quarterbacks (2)

Locks: Zach Wilson

Made Roster: Joe Flacco

Cut: Mike White and Chris Streveler

This is a tough position to analyze as while Wilson injury is not going to take him out long he is still questionable to play Week 1. So this will be a wait and see until the last preseason game, when more news comes out on how his recovery is going. But for now Wilson is a lock and I am not so sure Flacco is a lock yet. I mean he keeps getting hyped for some reason by the coaching staff and has had strong practices, but I want to wait another week to see how White and Streveler play against the Falcons. White and Streveler are the odd ones out for now, but depending how the injury of Wilson is, I could see one of them make the roster.

Running Back (4)

Locks: Michael Carter and Breece Hall

Made Roster: Ty Johnson and Tevin Coleman

Cut: La’Mical Perine and Zonavan Knight

This is probably the toughest position to predict as Perine and Knight showed flashes during the 1st preseason game against the Falcons. All I know is that Michael Carter and Breece Hall are going to play as New York Jets next season. Ty Johnson did not play last week and Coleman barely played. That should change against the Falcons as I am not confident that they will make the team. I am not going to change my prediction from last week though.

Fullback (1)

Locks: None

Made Roster: Nick Bawden

Cut: Trevon Wesco

Wesco did not perform well against the Eagles and as of now he is looking like the odd man out. The Jets may want to go with a player that plays fullback full time instead of a hybrid option. This battle will not be done yet, but I have to give the advantage for Bawden as of now.

Wide Receivers (6)

Locks: Corey Davis, Braxton Berrios, Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore

Made Roster: Jeff Smith, Calvin Jackson

Cut: Denzel Mims, Tarik Black, Irvin Charles

Davis, Berrios, Wilson, and Moore are not going anywhere. With Rashad Davis poor performance, has unfortunately resulted in him being cut. So I decided to have Calvin Jackson make the roster as he scored the game winning TD against the Eagles and he showed moments of brilliance as a smooth route runner. I am pretty much done with Denzel Mims or as I always love to call him Chris Herndon 2.0. Irvin Charles is a consideration for the practice squad along with Tarik Black.

Tight End (3)

Locks: C.J. Uzomah, Tyler Conklin, and Jeremy Ruckert

Made Roster: None

Cut: Kenny Yeboah and Lawrence Cager

As of now I would not change anything with this position. However if Cager continues to impress and get better with his position switch, then it would not shock me if he gets a practice squad spot, or the Jets enter the season with 4 tight ends on the roster.

Offensive Line (9)

Locks: George Fant, Alijah Vera Tucker, Laken Tomlinson, Connor McGovern, Duane Brown

Made Roster: Chuma Edoga, Nate Herbig, Max Mitchell, and Caleb Benenoch

Cut: Conor McDermott, Grant Hermmans, Dan Feeney, Greg Senat, Isaiah Williams, Dru Samia, Chris Glaser, and Ross Pierschbacher

No change from last week excluding me locking newly signed Duane Brown on the roster. It is mainly the battle of the backups and I honestly contemplated locking Herbig as he really impressed a lot from last week, but did not want to go overboard here. Benenoch also impressed as well and if he continues to, should make the roster. Mitchell struggled last week, but he is a 4th round rookie and he should make the roster. I still have Edoga making the roster as when healthy he is a solid blocker. It is going to be a big battle for the rest, but it still is an intriguing one, even though the starting o-line is pretty much set unless injuries occur.

Defensive Tackle (5)

Locks: Quinnen Williams, John Franklin-Myers

Made Roster: Solomon Thomas, Sheldon Rankins, Jonnathan Marshall

Cut: Tanzel Smart and Nathan Shepherd

Nothing different from last week, but I really debated with Tanzel Smart as he impressed last week against the Philadelphia Eagles. This group is so packed that there have been rumors of the Jets maybe looking to trade a defensive lineman for a draft pick. It will be interesting to see what happens at this position. I think out of the bunch Nathan Shepherd is probably the one out as he has struggled so far. But there is plenty more football left for Shepherd to impress and stand out.

DE/EDGE Rusher (5)

Locks: Carl Lawson, Jermaine Johnson and Michael Clemons

Made Roster: Josh Martin, Bryce Huff

Cut: Vinny Curry, Jabari Zuniga

Lawson and Johnson are clear locks to make the roster and that will not be changing. I got to say the Jets may really have something in Michael Clemons. I know that it is only preseason, but he has performed well in the preseason. I even saw footage of him in multiple scrimmages and if he keeps this up then the Jets easily have a draft steal in Clemons. In factI have decided to move Clemons as a lock to make the roster as I just don’t see how he does not make it along with being a rookie 4th round pick. As of now I still have Josh Martin and Bryce Huff as made the roster as they have more experience, but I contemplated putting Zuniga in there. Zuniga impressed against the Eagles, but the next game against the Falcons is a must for him to impress. Vinny Curry’s time as a Jet seems to be winding down and he must showcase something if he wants to make the roster.

Linebackers (5)

Locks: CJ Mosley and Quincy Williams

Made Roster: Kwon Alexander, Del’Shawn Phillips, and Jamien Sherwood

Cut: Hamsah Nasirildeen, Marcel Harris, and DQ Thomas

Mosley and Williams are clear locks. I contemplated locking Kwon Alexander due to his knowledge of Saleh’s system in there 49ers days, but I decided not to. Sherood is going to be a nice depth piece on this defense. I have decided to switch Nasirildeen with Philips due to the connections Philips has with the coaching staff and he is a bit more consistent than Nasirildeen is. Harris and Thomas will be battling for practice squad spots.

Cornerback (6)

Locks: DJ Reed, Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, Bryce Hall, Micheal Carter

Made Roster: Brandon Echols, and Justin Hardee

Cut: Javelin Guidry, Isaiah Dunn, and Rachad Wildgoose

No change with the cornerback position. Reed, Gardner, Hall, and Carter are absolute locks making the final roster. As of now I still think Echols and Hardee make the roster. Echols was more consistent then the bunch, but Hardee is more of a special teams specialist player. I am not ruling out Guidry or Dunn as both were impressive with their performances against the Eagles. Wildgoose was not great against the Eagles and he needs to play well against the Falcons and Giants if he has a chance making the active roster.

Safety (4)

Locks: Jordan Whitehead

Made Roster: Lamarcus Joyner, Jason Pinnock, and Elijah Riley

Cut: Ashtyn Davis, Will Parks, Tony Adams, and Kai Nacua

Whitehead was given a big contract in free agency and should be lock making the roster. Besides that, I can’t call anybody a lock. I still will stick with Joyner, Pinnock, and Riley making the roster. Ashtyn Davis is a player that has been disappointing. It would not shock me if they pull the plug on him. Parks, Adams and Nacua are battling for practice squad spots.

Special Teams

Kicker - Eddy Pineiro and Greg Zuerlein

Locks: None

Made Roster: Eddy Pineiro

Cut: Greg Zuerlein

Still a close battle, but I still believe the Jets will go with Pineiro over Zuerlein. But again I am not confident as there are 2 more preseason games left to go for the Jets.

Long Snapper (1)

Locks: Thomas Hennessy

The Longest tenured New York Jet Hennessy is not going anywhere, anytime soon. He is a lock to make the roster.

Punter (1)

Locks: Braden Mann

Since Mann is the only punter on the team, he will be the guy punting for the Jets this season. Well unless an injury occurs.
