This game, like I said, was a tank game as both teams were eliminated and the true value was in securing a higher draft pick. I got to be honest here as I love it every time the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets play each other as both have been my favorite teams growing up since I was a kid. No matter the record I always love watching both teams play each other because I can’t lose no matter the result of the game. Either or one of my favorite teams wins. But besides that, I really enjoyed this game as it was a close hard-fought battle. I am shocked that the Jets won this game because they did not have Head Coach Robert Saleh due to testing positive for Covid-19. The New York Jets won this game against the Jacksonville Jaguars 26-21. There were 5 players that impressed me and 5 others that disappointed me.
1. Player Who Impressed - QB Zach Wilson
Now I wasn't impressed with Zach Wilson passing the ball as he was not great in this game. Yes, he threw a passing touchdown to OL Connor McDermott but he only had 102 passing yards. But something I got to say is Zach Wilson is very mobile. He ran for a 52-yard touchdown which impressed me a lot. It reminded me a lot of Sam Darnold’s Touchdown against the Denver Broncos last season. But again It shows that there needs to be more RPO’s in this system because Wilson showcased that he has the ability to be very mobile.
2. Player Who Disappointed - WR Denzel Mims
Chris Herndon 2.0 once again continues to disappoint. He legit did nothing at all in this game and was targeted a total of three targets. Mims is an example of how bad Joe Douglas’s 2020 NFL Draft class has been. Honestly, I doubt he is on the roster next season as he gets worse and worse every week.
3. Player Who Impressed - RB Michael Carter
The Jets really have something in Michael Carter. He ran for 119 yards which is his career-high. He was very impressive and showcased how strong his field vision, hip mobility, foot quickness, and burst is. Especially when he ran for a 38-yard long run. Carter also has a solid hand catching the ball twice in this game. The Jets may have finally found a consistent running back since Chris Ivory back in 2015.
4. Player Who Disappointed - OL Greg Van Roten
The Jets o-line was a big weakness in this game. No surprise it was at Guard because Alijah Vera-Tucker was out due to being placed on the covid list. Van Roten was an absolute liability as a pass blocker as he missed multiple blocks which led to Zach Wilson getting pressured many times in this game.
5. Player Who Impressed - WR/KR Braxton Berrios
I was so wrong with Braxton Berrios when it comes to him on offense. My goodness, he has been a weapon on offense. He definitely is a smoother route runner and improved his awareness. Berrios is a solid slot option for the Jets. Berrios once again showcased his value on special teams as he had a 102-yard kick return touchdown. The Jets need to absolutely sign Braxton Berrios to an extension as he has heavily improved and gotten better and better.
6. Player Who Disappointed - OL Dan Feeney
Feeney has not been the best signing this offseason as he once again struggled in this matchup. Feeney struggled as a pass blocker but he was a big liability as a run blocker. It led to Jaguar defenders making easy tackles at the running game. I will not be shocked if the Jets choose not to resign Feeney.
7. Player Who Impressed - LB CJ Mosley
Mosley once again impressed as he once again was a strong run stopper making a total of 10 tackles. Mosley is an extremely hard hitter as once he is there most of the time the player goes down. Mosley also had a big impact as a pass rusher as he made a sack and provided pressure to the QB in this matchup.
8. Player Who Disappointed - LB Jarrad Davis
Davis was not completely terrible in this game and had moments of brilliance with the way he tackles. But my goodness he is a liability in coverage. Especially as he is poor with his footwork and he is sloppy with his hands. Davis needs to play better and be more consistent if he wants to earn another opportunity with the New York Jets next season.
9. Player Who Impressed - S/CB Jason Pinnock
Jason Pinnock was drafted as a cornerback in the 5th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Pinnock has good size, can be fast, very physical, and has strong awareness. The Jets have been trying him out at safety due to the injuries at the position and Ashtyn Davis being placed on the Covid list. I got to say Jason Pinnock looked pretty good at safety in this game. He made some great tackles in this game and even had a nice pass deflection when covering Marvin Jones Jr. Pinnock played a great game and hopefully, he keeps this up.
10. Player Who Disappointed - CB Brandon Echols
This was not a good performance at all for Brandon Echols. Especially as he was a big liability when he was in coverage. He committed a ton of penalties and got exposed by Laqoun Treadwell and Tavon Austin in this game. He needs to be more consistent with his coverage ability and finish strong.
