Mock Draft

Round 1

1. Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow: QB, LSU

The Bengals get their face of the franchise and do right by the local kid, giving him the chance to get this franchise back to a place of stability.

2. Washington Redskins: Chase Young: EDGE, Ohio State

Ron Rivera gets to add the most feared pass rusher to an already talented defensive front. After the trade to acquire Cam Newton, this team is squarely back in the playoff conversation.

3. Detroit Lions (traded to Dolphins): Tua Tagovailoa: QB, Alabama

Details: Dolphins get: Third overall pick

Lions get: Fifth overall pick, Second-round pick (39th overall), and Fifth round (f/LAR).

Bob Quinn gets the package they want and trades back to acquire some more talent, all the while not dropping too far down to not secure the player they want. The Dolphins go and get their franchise QB who has reportedly been on their radar for a long time.

4. New York Giants: Mekhi Becton: OT, Louisville

By all accounts the Giants have their next franchise QB in Daniel Jones, so now their focus is keeping him upright. Becton put on a show at the Combine, and even though he may be rough around the edges as a prospect, nobody has a higher upside.

5. Miami Dolphins: Traded to Lions: Jeffrey Okudah: CB, Ohio State

Perfectly played by the Lions front office: they are able to trade back, get more picks and still get the CB they wanted to replace Darius Slay. Okudah will be Matt Patricia’s Stephon Gilmore-esque corner to shut down the opponent’s best WR.

6. Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert: QB, Oregon

After trading away Russell Okung, the Chargers are in the market for an LT with all this top-end talent, but they would rather turn their attention to finding their next franchise QB in Herbert. He will give coach Anthony Lynn the freedom to open up the playbook fully with RPOs with his athleticism while the big-bodied WRs outside will be able to mask some of the inaccurate throws he makes.

7. Las Vegas Raiders (via Panthers): Isaiah Simmons: LB, Clemson

Details: Raiders get: First round (7th overall)

Panthers get: First round (12th overall), Third round (80th overall), and Fifth-round pick (Derek Carr/CHI).

The Panthers are in a position where they want to secure as many young players possible after shedding veterans on big contracts, so they trade down to do just that. After the Raiders secured a new toy in Robby Anderson in free agency for their new QB, Jameis Winston, they go out and get one of the best defensive players in this draft in Simmons. With all the quality TEs in the AFC West, this is the best chess piece to be able to combat them.

8. Arizona Cardinals: CeeDee Lamb: WR, Oklahoma

Kyler Murray sighs after the Raiders jump ahead of the Cardinals because he thinks they will select a WR, but to his delight Coach Kingsbury and GM Steve Keim immediately send in the card to reunite Lamb with Murray and hope to reignite the fireworks they had while at Oklahoma.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars: Derrick Brown: DT, Auburn

After the release of Marcell Dareus and the trade of Yannick Ngakoue, the Jaguars are rebuilding the DL on the fly with grizzled veteran Calais Campbell as the cornerstone. Insert a freak of an athlete in Brown, who can play up and down the formation and be an impact defender both in run support and the pass rush.

10. Cleveland Browns: Jedrick Wills: OT, Alabama

The Browns were able to band-aid the LT position through free agency with Jason Peters, but they will need a long term replacement. Wills, with his athleticism and upside, is too good to pass up. And with the addition of Jack Conklin at RT, the Browns will be able to slide Wills inside for Year One and then move him back outside when Peters eventually retires.

11. New York Jets: Jerry Jeudy: WR, Alabama

The Jets made improvements to their offensive line through free agency, which puts them in a position to select the best player available rather than positional need. They are ecstatic when a stud WR like Jeudy falls into their lap. They select him and hope that the Darnold to Jeudy connection will be putting up big numbers for years to come.

12. Carolina Panthers (via Raiders) Javon Kinlaw: DT, South Carolina

After trading back, the Panthers still put themselves in a position to select a high-impact player, and they do just that in the long, powerful, and explosive DL Kinlaw. He will be a cornerstone of a rebuilding defense now that Kuechly has retired.

13. Indianapolis Colts: Jordan Love: QB, Utah State

The Colts were able to get more competition for their QB position through the offseason by pairing Nick Foles with his OC that helped him win a Super Bowl in Philadelphia. They are not finished with adding talent though and have been working the phones in an effort to move up and select Chris Ballard’s favorite QB, Jordan Love. Much to their delight, he falls right into their laps and they sprint to the podium to select him.

14. Philadelphia Eagles (via Buccaneers): Henry Ruggs III: WR, Alabama

Details: Eagles get: 1st Round #14, 6th Round Pick

Buccaneers get: 1st Round #21, 3rd Round #85

The Eagles made a ton of big moves in the offseason, signing some marquee free agents and trading away some veterans to position themselves in a spot to win this year. With this trade, they move up to secure more speed that they desperately needed in their WR corps.

15. Denver Broncos: Tristan Wirfs: OT, Iowa

The Broncos were able to fill a lot of their holes through trades and free-agent additions, so that sets them up to take the best player available. Mike Munchak will be grinning ear to ear when they announce this selection of Wirfs. He has elite athleticism but needs a good bit of refinement, which he will be getting at the hands of one of the best. He gives them options if Ja'Wuan James isn’t healthy, Garrett Bolles can’t stop holding people, or even inside as a David DeCastro-esque pulling guard.

16. Atlanta Falcons: K’Lavon Chaisson: Edge, LSU

After moving on from Vic Beasley, the Falcons target some much-needed athleticism to their pass rush. His ability to win with speed or power is impressive and when bookend with Fowler Jr. this pass rush should be able to get Grady Jarrett a lot more one-on-one reps.

17. Dallas Cowboys: Kyle Dugger: S, Lenoir Rhyne

The Cowboys need a playmaker on the backend of their secondary, and Dugger is one of the rangiest safeties in this class. His ability to click and close in an instant, as well as his ability to use his length to disrupt the catch point, will be a valued addition.

18. Miami Dolphins (f/PIT): A.J. Epenesa: DE, Iowa

Brian Flores is a Belichick disciple, which means athletic testing scores are not the end of the world; what you do on tape is what they care about. Epenesa put up pedestrian numbers at the Combine, but he is one of the most feared pass rushers in this class because of his hand usage and strength.

19. Las Vegas Raiders (f/CHI): C.J. Henderson: CB, Florida

Wow! The Raiders not only got the best defensive playmaker in the class, but they were also able to secure one of the best corners as well with this pick. Teaming Henderson up with Mullen will be two bookend CBs the AFC West will need to be aware of.

20. Indianapolis Colts (via Jaguars (f/LAR), Nick Foles): Tee Higgins: WR, Clemson

This is one of the picks acquired in the Nick Foles trade due to the offset of salary. It’s a great payoff, as they are able to get a young playmaker to team with their future starting QB in Love who can contribute now as well.

21. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (via Philadelphia Eagles) Andrew Thomas: OT, Georgia

The Buccaneers loaded up with veteran players this offseason, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have an eye on the future after signing Bryan Bulaga to man RT. With this selection, they can let Thomas bide his time for a season or even place him at LT and move Donovan Smith to G, where his strength could simply be overwhelming.

22. Buffalo Bills: Ben Bartch: OT, Saint John’s (MN)

Bartch is one of the biggest surprises in this mock, but don’t sleep on this small school OT. He flashed athleticism and a dominant skill set while at the Senior Bowl. With this pick, they place him at RT and move Cody Ford to OG, thus solidifying two spots with one pick, and hopefully keeping Josh Allen upright for years to come.

23. San Francisco 49ers (via Patriots, Jimmy Garoppolo): Grant Delpit: S, LSU

This is one of the pick swaps from the Jimmy G swap. After the 49ers lose Jimmie Ward to the Eagles they are in need of a ball hawk in the secondary and they get one of the best in the draft. This is a great value and without the pick swap, they probably don’t get a chance to select this player.

24. New Orleans Saints: Justin Jefferson: WR, LSU

One final reloading of weapons for Drew Brees’ swan song. Jefferson is a huge target with excellent body control and sure hands. He wins a ton of matchups from the slot and outside. Sean Payton is hopeful that this addition can free Michael Thomas up for more one on one matchups.

25. Minnesota Vikings: Josh Jones: OT, Houston

We all know how much Kirk Cousins has been under pressure since coming to Minnesota, and with Riley Reiff not being able to play at a consistently high level they get an athletic OT with a huge upside to place on the blindside.

26. Washington Redskins (via Dolphins (f/HOU), Trent Williams): Austin Jackson: OT, USC

Talk about filling a hole immediately. With the pick they get back from trading their former Pro Bowl LT they select an OT who has one of the biggest upsides in this draft. He is young (20) and has the athleticism to match up with just about any pass rusher possible, but he needs a good bit of refinement technically speaking. Should be a day one starter and the sky's the limit.

27. Seattle Seahawks: Zack Baun: LB, Wisconsin

Versatile LB who should be able to step right in on the strong side of their 4-3 scheme. He has the ability to drop off in coverage with ease and the aggression and pass-rushing repertoire to blitz the QB. An excellent schematic fit.

28. Baltimore Ravens: Patrick Queen: LB, LSU

Since C.J. Mosley walked in free agency, ILB has been a sore spot on the Ravens defense. Insert Queen, who is an ascending player who plays with the aggression and closing quickness that Baltimore hasn’t seen since the days of Ray Lewis patrolling the middle of the field.

29. Tennessee Titans: Yetur Gross-Matos: EDGE, Penn State

After seeing Harold Landry take a step forward this year, the continual presence inside of Jurell Casey, and the upside of Jeffrey Simmons, the Titans need another bookend pass rusher to complete their overhaul of the pass-rushing front. Gross-Matos has all the athleticism you want outside and a litany of moves, but he needs technical refinement to take that next step.

30. Green Bay Packers: Jalen Reagor: WR, TCU

Last year was proof that there is no receiver on the roster who can consistently win matchups to take attention off of Adams. Reagor would give Aaron Rodgers an explosive weapon, both on short routes for yards after the catch or as a deep threat to take the top off of defenses.

31. New England Patriots (via 49ers, Jimmy Garoppolo): Josh Uche: LB, Michigan

After seeing both Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy walk in free agency, the Pats need a new weapon on defense. That’s the best way to describe Uche. He is just scratching the surface as a pass rusher and has the athleticism to carry TEs in coverage. A chess piece like this will have Bill Belicheck grinning under the hoodie.

32. Kansas City Chiefs: Cesar Ruiz: IOL, Michigan

After losing Mitch Morse to free agency last year, the Chiefs have really had some uneven play all along their IOL. They go out and get a pivot man that can play and grow with Patrick Mahomes for the next decade. Ruiz has great mobility and intelligence that allows him to get to the 2nd level of defenses. He’s also a great pre-snap communicator, which is needed when playing under Andy Reid.

Round 2

33. Cincinnati Bengals: Kenneth Murray: LB, Oklahoma

34. Indianapolis Colts (f/WAS): Ezra Cleveland: OT, Boise State

36. New York Giants: Jeff Gladney: CB, TCU

37. Los Angeles Chargers: Jaylon Johnson: CB, Utah

38. New York Jets (via Panthers): Kristian Fulton: CB, LSU

Details: Jets get: 2nd Round #38, 5th Round Pick

Panthers get: 2nd Round #48, 3rd Round #79

40. Arizona Cardinals: Lucas Niang: OT, TCU
