Injury History

2019 vs Ohio State, 2019 vs Michigan State

Team Fit

Great in man coverage, especially press man. Deep speed ability allows him to catch up if he gets beat. Fundamentally sound tackler when he has an opportunity to make the play. lower half coordinates with the upper half. Has plenty of special teams experience.

Weaknessess

Slightly below average while in zone coverage and has moments of indecision. Frequently doesn't commit until it's too late in coverage. One year starter but has lots of playing time so low production is baffling. Allows blockers to engage and get in his face so he can't easily disengage.

Big Picture

Thomas could have used the 2020 season but he opted before the Big Ten's decision to postpone the fall season. He is an effective man corner that has a role as a nickel at the next level. As it currently stands, he's likely an early Day 3 selection due to the depth of the cornerback class ahead of him. Needs to grow in his frame in order to combat bigger and more physical receivers.

Is great at press and man coverage, often times lining up against the opponent's best receiver. Very physical at the snap. Can be caught overthinking and complicating things in no man's land while playing zone coverage. Combative with his hand usage. Flashes of good hip fluidity and ability to turn and run on a dime. Recovers well once he's beaten off the line.

Closes relatively quickly to the ball despite taking a second to diagnose. Above average ball skills. High points the ball well for a guy his size.

Run Support:

7.25

Does not disengage with the blocker particularly well even for a taller corner. Allows the receiver to get in his face and thus rerouting him from the play. However, when he has a chance to make a play, he's an efficient tackler and often doesn't go for the home run hit.

Competitiveness:

Toughness isn't an issue as he scraps and claws on every play despite being smaller than some receivers. Consistent from rep to rep. Confidence is solid in that he thinks he's the best man on the field.

Play recognition is above average while in man coverage but no so much in zone coverage. Gives effort while in zone and is in constant communication with teammates. Works well in tandem with secondary mates.
