Mathis has decent lateral agility and speed when in coverage. Mathis has solid body control and balance when in coverage. Mathis plays with a ton of strength and it shows with the way he tackles players. Mathis does a great job engaging with blockers and can sometimes shed blocks. He is a good tackler and hits with a lot of power. Mathis allows little separation between him and the defender in press coverage. Mathis is the best in Zone Coverage and is very physical. Mathis has a decent technique with the utilization of his hands. Mathis plays with a lot of competitiveness and Football Intelligence. The position versatility is a strong attribute to Damarri Mathis as he could be a fit at safety, linebacker, or corner.

Weaknessess

He does not have strong foot quickness and is constantly sloppy. Mathis needs to tighten his angles in pursuit. Especially as he has a habit of overshooting bad angles in pursuit of defenders. He must do a better job wrapping his arms during tackles. He also looks lost at times when in man to man coverage. Mathis does not have the best Hip Fluidity as he is not the best sinking his hips in coverage and during his stance. Mathis has to work on his closing quickness as sometimes he is a bit slow to make certain plays. He does not have the best high point ability. Damarri needs to be a little more consistent with his hand techniques and when he is in coverage. Durability is a concern as he had a severe Shoulder injury that took him out the entire 2020 season.

I have Damarri Mathis projected to go in the 6th or 7th round but I would not be shocked if Mathis is undrafted.
