21 vs. Michigan, 21 vs. Oregon, 21 vs. UCLA, 21 vs. Washington State
Athletic corner with great short area quickness to match his fundamentals. Competitive even though size isn't the greatest. Great tackler and displays proper balance between reckless aggression and calcutlative cognitive ability. Speed and lateral agility to turn and run with anyone. Hips are fluid. Has a nose for the ball with right angles being taken to the path. Can and has been versatile.
Frame is an issue along with the short arms that's under 30". Bigger receivers will just outmuscle him for the ball in contested catch situations. While he has good recovery speed, he can be beat and it is hard for him to recover.
Mcduffie won't be CB1 for any team that drafts him, he can be a CB2 that's well schooled in the fundamentals, has great athleticism, and will fight for the ball. He's a top five corner prospect and will likely get drafted in the first round but the second round will be his floor. The ceiling being the top 15. He compares physically and stylistically to former Michigan Wolverine defensive back Leon Hall in that regard.
Displays good foot quickness and lateral explosiveness in short areas. Speed is evident as he ran a 4.44 40 during the offseason and he has the burst to keep up with faster receivers in both slot and on the perimeter. Strength is an issue due to his small frame and can get bullied by bigger blockers. Plays with above average balance and isn't often knocked off his path nor is fooled off the release.
Big Play Ability
Even though he doesn't have the length to bully receivers at the line, he does maintain an ability to press them adeptly and can hold his own more often than not. Is better at zone coverage than in man but only slightly and both areas are above average. He uses his lateral quickness, closing speed and great route recognition to keep everything in front of him while in zone. While in man, he has great hip fluidity and combative hands to reroute the receiver but can be beat on occasion by quicker receivers deep.
Closes to the ball rapidly due to his lateral agility, short bursts, and play diagnostics. Ball production wasn't there but he is aware enough to track the ball deep and on shorter routes. Not easily fooled by the quarterback's eyes. High point is above average but the short frame may hinder him at times.
Cuts off any angles at the pass and doesn't give up any big plays as a result. A willing tackler that has good fundamentals but can be overwhelmed by bigger receivers and blockers in the wash. Aggressive and willing to go nose to nose with receivers. Narrows down the angles given to the ball carrier with frequency.
Engage with Blockers
Aggressive but calculative demeanor at all times. Irrational confidence bordering on heat check levels. Consistent and motor is always running white hot.
Play recognition is best intangible, especially in zone where he doesn't let the route develop often and breaks quickly to stop it. Has been seen to play safety, slot, and on the perimeter in certain packages. Great communicator with teammates and rallys to the ball.
