Team Fit

JAX

Absolutely relentless motor. Very high effort player who makes plays purely on hustle. Versatile edge defender who could be moved around to rush inside or outside. Extremely active, physical hands. Stuns blockers with punch and gains leverage to win with variety of moves. Swats hands and swims around regularly. Stacks blocks and sheds well. Reads through blocks to anticipate rush lanes and jump to gap.

Weaknessess

Can run straight up and play with pad level too high. Average length, can get swallowed up by bigger/longer tackles if he doesn't gain leverage quickly. Lacks the elite bend and speed around the corner. Could work on fine tuning techniques to reduce wasted movements

Big Picture

Hutchinson was a three year starter and two time Team Captain for his hometown Michigan Wolverines. After missing most of the 2020 season due to a fractured ankle, he broke out his senior season to become a Heisman finalist and lead one of the top defenses in the nation. Hutchinson is a consensus top five player in the 2022 draft class. He projects as a player who can fit on the edge into any defensive scheme and can play in multiple fronts. His motor and tools he already has gives him a high floor with still room to grow to be a feared, relentless pass rusher in the league. Hutchinson should not fall out of the top five in the draft and has a good shot at being selected first overall.
