Injury History: Shoulder surgery (2019)
2020 vs Louisville, 2019 vs Western Michigan, 2021 vs UTSA
Has quick first step that he pairs with an explosive dart back inside. Dips shoulders and has decent bend around the corner. Active hands effective at preventing tackles from engaging. Keeps outside arm/shoulder free to help set the edge. Flashes ability to split and shed double teams. Good balance and quick feet to work through traffic. Works straight down the line in backside pursuit and effective at cutting off cut back lanes. Good motor, plays with high energy
Needs to add some bulk to play full time on the Edge. Gets moved off spot too easily when the tackle is able to find a fit. Inconsistent tackling and pursuit angles. Minimal experience dropping to coverage especially man.
Malone flashes elite traits but those instances come sparingly during games. Plays with high energy and makes plays purely based off of motor. Limited experience in coverage duties but didn't appear lost dropping into zone. Has the length and quickness to stick with TE/RB in man coverage. May be too light to be a fixture on the Edge. Needs to add strength to hold ground and fight off NFL lineman or convert to more an outside LB role. Could be effective situational pass rusher but needs to add power move to not be predictable. Could add value to a team from day one while developing on high upside potential. Should be drafted in the 4th-5th Round.
