Very good athleticism and has length for days to combat blockers. First step is very good and should intrigue teams in the middle rounds. Bendy and twitchy type of pass rusher. When he's right, he can be an effective rusher. Explosion is top tier.
Weaknessess
Fundamentally raw in all aspects of the position. Run defense leaves a lot to be desired. Football IQ s below par for any position. Not versatile. Limited pass rush arsenal. More athlete than refined football player.
Big Picture
Jackson is a classic example of a toolsy prospect who has top level athleticism but not much else, fundamentally. Perhaps the turmoil of the program can be taken into account. He has the athleticism that coaches drool over and can't be taught. The other stuff can be, however and that will be crucial at the next level if he wants to be more than a situational pass rusher. He could be taken in the early stages of Day 3 and be molded in the right situation.

Athleticism:
7.1
Lateral Agility | Flexibility | Explosiveness | Playing Strength | Balance |
---|---|---|---|---|
8 | 7.5 | 7.5 | 6 | 6.5 |
He is a top level athlete with the physical tools such as the bend and long arms. While not graded as the most explosive athlete in the class, he is plenty explosive off the snap. Strength is an ongoing issue as that part of the toolbox seems to have never developed. Plays very off kilter and isn't balanced on most reps.

Pass Rush Ability:

Big Play Ability
While his first step isn't in the top tier in the class, it is still quite good. Extremely quick when he has a clean pathway. There's no strength nor leverage in his hands. The program disarray left him woefully underdeveloped in terms of pass rush arsenal. He is quite limited to one move in that regard. Doesn't finish the play and is often taken out of the picture by the blocker.
Against The Run:
6
Doesn't set the edge in a consistently viable fashion. He lacks the strength and the requisite skills to disengage from the blocker. Limited range in terms of chasing the backside and downfield. Inconsistently consistent in maintaining gap integrity. Tackling is subpar and is seen often going for arm tackles instead of wrapping up properly.

Toughness | Consistency/Motor | Disruption |
---|---|---|
6.5 | 6 | 6 |
The prospect has a motor that runs hot and cold at any given time. Much like the motor, toughness runs in a similar manner. Limited in scope of disruption that frees up teammates. Doesn't like to go blow for blow against blockers.
