Strengths

Van Ness shines athletically. Especially, as he plays with a strong level of agility and explosiveness. Van Ness has nice flexibility and great posture which helps his balance when facing offensive lineman. His footwork is pretty solid, especially his first steps are pretty quick. Van Ness has a solid finishing ability too. He is a great tackler and you can't deny how solid his technique is. He does a great job with how he shoots gaps and tries to limit opportunities for the offense. He plays with Toughness and along with a motor. He has position versatility as he played as a DE/EDGE and as an interior defensive lineman. He has solid awareness and can recognize plays well. Van Ness has been durable and has not suffered a major injury in his career.

Weaknessess

A big problem with Van Ness is that he struggles to get off blocks and provide leverage to offensive lineman. He also does not have the greatest pass rushing moves and has a poor utilization of his hands. Van Ness struggles to play with leverage along with stacking and shedding blocks to make tackles. He just needs to work on his consistency and being more of a disrupter on defense. The one important weakness to bring up that is a red flag is that throughout his tenure with Iowa, he never started a game with them

I have Van Ness as a 2nd or 3rd Round Prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft.
