Strengths

A versatile piece that can play at both C and G. Gets off his snaps with solid quickness and agility. When having to slide to help his teammates out, his lateral agility shows. Can handle bull rushes by powerful DT and DEs that will push him backwards. Can create holes for backs when down blocking and executing reach blocks at the goal line. Uses his strong hands at a good level in both the run and passing game.

Weaknessess

Blitzes and stunts that are thrown at him will give him issues. LBs that have speed and could effectively blitz through the A gaps, would get home a decent amount. Being able to communicate at the LOS needs to be more evident. Resetting his feet and finding defenders to block when a play is unfolding, needs to happen more often.

Big Picture

is a OG and a C that is able to get off his snaps with quickness and controlled balance. That balance showed a lot in his ability to handle bull rushes and powerful defensive linemen. In pass pro, he does have good footwork and leverage at the POA, but he needs to continue at developing the ability of resetting his feet. Too many times Miranda would get crossed over by rushers who could go from power to speed. Communicating more at the LOS with his QB and fellow linemen is only going to improve his game. Too many stunts and blitzes were able to fool Miranda when a play would develop. In the run game, Miranda will make effective reach and down blocks. More blocks that continue into the 2nd level of the defense needs to happen more. Finding opponents to block needs to happen more often as well because he would be caught standing and looking around. Does not possess a dominate pulling ability. His hands are a huge assist to his game. In both the passing and running game, he was able to use his hands to keep his blocks close. Was able to slide defenders out of the way or into his teammate’s blocks. Being that dominate OL that makes explosive blocks at a consistent rate needs to happen more.

Athleticism:

7.13

Does get off the snap with solid quickness and flexibility. That flexibility shows in his knees when he goes into his pass protection sets. Will have that solid base to handle powerful NT/DTs. Does have the lateral agility to be able to side and help out his fellow linemen. Will get into a balanced blocking set at the POA in both the run and pass. Play strength is at a good level within physicality but there is still more improvement needed. Needs to develop more explosiveness at the POA with defenders.

When making down blocks, he can drive opponents backwards but lacks the strength to drive into the 2nd level of the defense. Was able to make effective reach blocks to create room near the goal line and in short yardage situations. Will wipe defenders out of the way using the defender’s own momentum to his advantage. Does not possess a lot of speed to pull and get around the bend of the block. Needs to develop the ability to keep his legs moving and adjust to a new defender in space. Strong hands that fire up and control defenders into certain directions.

Pass Blocking:

Will handle powerful rushes with good leverage and balance at the POA. Can mirror pass rushers and anchor rushers at a good level when they are trying to beat him with straight force. Quick inside rips can beat him. Does need to continue at resetting his feet to give himself an even greater advantage. Did struggle with rushers that could go from power to quickness. Blitzers and stunts that were thrown his way did give him issues as well. Hands do fire up quickly and can keep defenders close. At times, he was able to drive/slide his blocks into his teammates to help.

Is a tough interior offensive lineman that attacks defenders with a good effort. Is not going to consistently pick up blocks and create pancake blocks. Higher motor and finding opportunities to create a block would improve his game.

Needs to generate/create more communication with his QB and linemen at the LOS before the ball is snapped. Too many times, blitzes and stunts where ran up the middle and beat this Penn State team. This is an OL that has experience playing at LG.
