Strengths

A versatile defensive LB that will make solid tackles all over the football field. Can rush the passer with a good jump off the LOS. Has a set of speed rushing moves and uses his hands well to gain separation when rushing. Shows good patience when read option plays unfold in front of him and he has to make a decision. Will not be a total liability in coverage and was able to cover slot receivers at a good level for a LB. Plays with good overall speed and acceleration which allows him to make plays in the backfield.

Weaknessess

Rushing and winning with total leverage is not a huge trait that he possesses. Is not going to blow through OTs with straight power. Winning with power moves needs to be implemented into his game if he is going to be an every down pass rusher. Communicating with safeties when a play is unfolding needs to be more present in coverage.

Big Picture

The versatile Jo Jo Domann out of Nebraska is a LB that fits in todays NFL. This is a defender that can line up against a receiver in a nickel look or rush the passer as an OLB. When rushing the passer, Domann uses his straight play speed to his advantage when getting around the edge of a OT. Is not going to win with his pure strength and power. Needs to develop a better ability of rushing with more leverage if he wants to be that pure pass rushing specialist. This is a LB that has a lot of solid traits when it comes to his coverage ability. He can be put out in zone coverage and cover the flats at a good rate. Will not be that huge liability in man coverage and will be able to defend TEs well down the field. Communicating with the safeties during a play does need to be more evident moving forward. Does have a high running motor and the ability to cover sideline to sideline. Defensive coordinators are only going to benefit from having this type of player piece in their defense.

Plays the game with a lot of speed at the LB position. Has a good ability to close on the ball carrier with quickness and good explosiveness. Moves around the field at a good level when playing as an OLB or in the middle of the field. Does have a good ability to move laterally to stop outside pitches or read options. Good mix of speed and power in his game.

When rushing the passer, he does have a good first step off the LOS that gives him an advantage when blowing up a play. Rushing with more leverage needs to be incorporated in his game but it will be a challenge to improve drastically because of his size. Much more of a finesse rusher and has to win with speed when going against bigger offensive tackles. Wants to use his hands to gain separation. Will time up plays at a good level when engaging with contact.

Coverage:

7.25

Does have some fluid hips for a linebacker. Moves really well in coverage and was able to cover the slot man with good overall coverage traits. Is better in zone coverage than man but will not be a total liability if asked to man up on a receiver. Does have a good ability to recognize routes thrown his way. Was able to blow up short passes in the flats.

Against The Run:

Speed pops off film when he has to go from one side of the C-gap to the other. A rangy linebacker that will make good solid tackles in space with a ball carrier. Will shed off blocks produced by TEs easily. Being able to shed off blocks at a higher rate versus OTs needs to be more evident in his game. Improvement in playing with total leverage will help. Takes good pursuit angles on ball carriers and was able to make shoelace tackles if he did not win on initial contact.

This is a tough player that will play out wide in coverage or lined up rushing in a 5 technique versus an OT. Shows good leadership on the field and will communicate before the snap. Has a high running motor and it was evident when he was moving sideline to sideline trying to make a play.

Will recognize between run and pass plays at a good level. More improvement in route recognition will help. Will see a play unflood, will be patient, and will attack with good aggressiveness. Being able to be that rotational piece that defensive coordinator can move around is a very good trait.
