Strengths
A Chris Paul type of passer who gets the ball to the right people at the right time. Footwork in the pocket is very good. Tough and well respected leader on and off the field. Works well with what he has in the play action. Laser accurate to all three levels. Excellent touch on most passes. Makes great decisions on his throws, resulting in few interceptions and tipped balls. Ready for the next level system wise.
Weaknessess
Lack of athleticism is very apparent. Won't fool defenses into making mistakes against him out of the pocket. Arm strength is a giant question for the next level when DBs are much more talented. His throws have a tendency to float after 25 yards or so due to lack of arm talent. Moves well in the pocket but when he's rushed, it gets ugly.
Big Picture
Jones isn't an otherworldly talent in terms of athleticism but he has enough traits other than that to earn him a top 15 selection. Alabama's system has him pro ready right now. He will need to go to a team that is ready made for him with players capable of making magic to compensate for his physical shortcomings. He had a great tenure in Tuscaloosa, winning a national title and being named a Heisman finalist as a senior. Can he continue being the point guard of the offense against much more talented defenses and defensive schemes in the NFL?

Not the most athletically gifted. He has close to zero lateral agility and is a statue in the pocket. Shows very little ability to scramble except for in short yardage situations. Despite his lack of athleticism, he has shown that he's a master of the play action. Not explosive nor quick. Speed is an issue to the point that it will become a liability. Manipulates pocket to a certain degree but the lack of athleticism has shown that he can be easily taken down. When he's pressured, he loses all fundamentals and lowers his eyes.

Has a quick release and very clean mechanics when the pocket is clean. When the pocket is cluttered, he gets off platform and isn't athletic enough to reset. Smooth delivery to two of the three levels of the field. Accuracy to the short and intermediate levels is quite exquisite and pinpoint. Deep ball accuracy is similar but the lack of arm strength allows for defensive backs to catch up. A big play specialist that distributes the ball very well and allows his playmakers to make things happen. Great touch and ball placement is among the elite of the elite, even on throws to the deep part of the field. Arm strength is glaring once throws go past 25 yards. The ball just doesn't explode out of his hands. Footwork while in pocket is a plus plus, just don't ask him to run often. He manuevers past oncoming defenders and utilizes his blockers well.

Leadership isn't a question as he stepped into an impossible situation his junior season due to Tua's injury and held off a stud freshman enough to merit a Heisman finalist campaign. Doesn't get rattled in the pocket often and shows up in the middle of the maelstrom. Production was monstrous his senior season. Led the country in numerous passing categories. What you see is what you get with him i.e. can't improvise on any off platform throws or runs due to lack of athleticism.

Instinctual passer. Excellent decision maker in that he doesn't throw too many 50-50 balls and leads the receiver with anticipation. Field vision is impeccable. Adjusts very well to the defense pre-snap and frequently makes the right call.
