Strengths
Always on time with his throws, has great anticipation. Has incredible field and pocket awareness. Feels pressure and knows how to escape, while always keeping his eyes down field. Can throw into tight windows and can throw receivers open. Great short and intermediate accuracy. Great leader and always has control of the offense. Will stay in the pocket and take a hit, while still completing a pass. Can see the whole field very well. He also has great concentration and can stay focused on a play when things are breaking down. Has a quick release and is always on point with his delivery. This actually makes him a really good RPO QB, because he can give a good play fake and still be on time and accurate throw.
Weaknessess
Doesn't have the strongest arm, but it is enough that he can make any throw you ask him to. He will definitely need to work on his deep accuracy, it seems that he overthrows deep passes when he doesn't need to. Could be a confidence thing? Because of the offense SMU ran, he never made pre-snap adjustments, so he will need to show he can do that. Not the most athletic or agile quarterback. Can sometimes predetermine his throws, which can create problems and slow down the offense.
Big Picture
Buechele is a mid round quarterback, with the potential to be a starter. He is definitely going to be a project for the team that drafts him, but he has all the tools to be successful and the poise it takes to start in the NFL. His father was a pro baseball player, so he has been around professional sports his whole life and it shows on the field. No moment seems too big him, as he stays calm and collected under pressure. I also feel that his upbringing gave him incredible field vision and improvisation, because baseball is a sport of fast decisions He is not a real scrambler, but he has no problem sticking his foot in the dirt and running for the first down when needed. He is a tough runner too, as he never shows fear of contact. He fantastic timing/anticipation on throw and is the type of QB who doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Overall I think he will start out as a very good handcuff, with the ability to take the starting job.
