Strengths

His biggest strength is his pure running ability and his decisiveness. He has good size for the position and has good speed for his size. He makes good decisions consistently and will keep the offense on schedule as long as his OL is performing to standard. His burst is apparent when he makes his move. Runs with good paced feet which allow him the freedom to make a move when he sees fit. He has the long speed to make a house call when he sees green. Possesses solid contact balance and body control to be able to maximize yardage when compromised.

Weaknessess

His decisiveness is his ironically his biggest weakness. As in he is not a creative runner. When the OL fails to open a clear running lane for him, he struggles to create for himself at the LOS. His ball security issues could be dertrimental to him getting regular work as he doesn't possess the high end talent to ward off losing the trust of the coaches after one too many fumbles. He will have to improve at recognizing his pass protection responsibilities as well to get work in the NFL.

Missed a game due to a minor ankle injury in 2021.

Big Picture

Jerome Ford projects best as a short yardage back who works in a committee. He can work in any blocking scheme as he has sufficient vision and discipline to work in tight areas and is bursty enough to take advantage of what he sees. He will need work in both aspects of the passing game, pass pro in particular. He is a smart player that will stick on an NFL roster and will be productive when his name is called.

Ford is a good athlete for his size. Possesses good mesurables for the position, and has been durable with his limited amount of carries in his college career. Burst is evident when he plants his foot to hit a hole, has a clear top gear and he gets to it quickly. Solid contact balance lets him balance off of tacklers through traffic, he finishes runs forward at a high clip. He has good long speed with the ability to outrun DBs in a footrace to the endzone.

Big Play Ability

His decision making with the ball in his hands is great at the LOS. He consistently makes the right decisions and keeps his offense on schedule. His one cut ability is good as he keeps his feet paced at the line to not have to make a false step when deciding to plant and go. Is an upright runner which presents a big target for the defense to attack. His ball security is a concern, as hes fumbled 6 times over 400 collegiate touches.

Receiving:

6.5

Natural hand aren't an issue as long as balls are placed in his general area. Didn't run an expansive route tree at Cincinnati, but he played slot receiver in HS so the upside is there. Isn't the most creative runner in space, and won't have many dynamic plays in the passing game early on in his career.

Pass protection is an issue. Has trouble diagnosing blitz pickups and that led to his QB having to bail the pocket more than once. His effort is there but this will need to improve at the next level to get on the field on passing downs.

He only has one good year of production under his belt, but he was a workhorse for the Cincinnati offense as he led the AAC in rushing in 2021. This could be a positive or negative depending on how you want to look at it. I also look at his story to leave Alabama's crowded RB room to branch out and be a workhorse for the first Go5 team to make the playoff as a positive marker of his toughness and competitive nature.

Intelligence:

6.75

Isn't the most instinctual runner in terms of feeling defensive players, setting up linebackers, or chaining together moves. His patience is good for letting his blocks develop in front of him. He can run all play concepts, but he isn't ready for a 3 down role.
