Strengths

Very explosive, can come off the line for huge chunks of yardage. Dangerous in the open field, makes fast cuts and is very elusive. Most effective on the outside, where he gets around corners easily. Highly productive and a scoring threat whenever he's on the field. 46 games with at least one touchdown, only 9 games without one. Simply one of the most prolific scorers college has ever seen .He's a top notch athlete, who can beat defenders with size and agility. When he's receiving out of the backfield, he's an absolute weapon and linebackers are unable to cover him. Can tear up the middle of the field. Reliable player, who rarely gets injured, and is on the field often.

Weaknessess

Etienne's largest issue is his blocking. He struggles heavily with finding blockers in space. While blocking, he lacks technique and gets pushed aside very quickly. Can only block up the middle, and allows edge defenders and cornerbacks to blitz with ease. He doesn't have great vision or patience, and runs into gaps that have linebackers bearing down on them. Went from 7.8 yards per carry in 2019 to 5.4 in 2020. Will sometimes get pushed back far when checking defenders before going out to recieve, and has already left the block but is too late to run his route. Doesn't sell play fakes well, obvious he doesn't have the ball.

Big Picture

Etienne could have entered into the 2019 NFL draft as one of the top running back prospects, but chose to return for his senior year, and continued to perform. He finished his college career as the ACC's all time leader in total touchdowns with 78, yards from scrimmage with 6,107, and rushing yards with 4,952. He was one of the most productive players in college football history, also holding the NCAA record for games with a touchdown at 46. Etienne fits somewhere that he can be a clear cut starting running back. He's excelled in that role and has always carried the workload. If he can improve his vision, he definitely has potential to a premier scoring running back. Unless he makes major strides, he'll always be held back by a lack of blocking ability, severely limiting his usage in some situations. He has a high ceiling with his production, but definitely some issues he needs worked out before he can hit that.

Fast off the snap and possesses significant top end speed. Enough to leave defenders behind if he can get the edge. Weaves through defenders easily. Stays on his feet making cuts. Doesn't bowl over guys, and isn't a power back, but he also doesn't drop instantly and stays on his feet after breaking tackles. Reaches top speed quickly and moves laterally very well. Beats defenders on the edge and can lineup outside and run go routes.

Big Play Ability

Isn't very patient and tries to shoot gaps he can't. Doesn't always maneuver for time to let blocks develop, but he does have the ability to. Makes quick cuts, and forces a lot of broken tackles. Turns on a dime and has a great spin move. Stays well balanced an on his feet. His legs keep pumping until he goes down. Really needs to be wrapped up and can escape hands grabbing at him.

Receiving:

8

Can lineup outside. Jumps off the line of scrimmage with good acceleration. Very dangerous when he comes out of the backfield, and can torch linebackers. His small size, speed, and maneuver ability allows him to sneak past and gain yards of separation. Not totally refined as a route runner, but can make separation at any area of the field. Reliable pass catcher with very few drops.

Not eager as a blocker, and when he does connect he gets overpowered quickly. His biggest struggles is finding defenders in space. Doesn't look for them and rarely guards his quarterbacks sides. Instead looks for blitzers up the middle, and allows defenders to come in off the edge with little resistance.

One of the most productive players in Clemson and ACC history. Handled the vast majority of the running workload for Clemson. Stayed on the field despite that, and rarely missed time. Came back to school despite the fact that he could've been picked as one of the first running back. Describe as highly competitive and shows it on the field.

Intelligence:

7.17

Versatile as he's a dangerous weapon in the passing game, but has a gaping hole with blocking. Has large vision issues and isn't patient as a runner. Won't bounce around inside and usually cuts outside quickly. It worked in college but may need to wait for blocks to develop and gaps to open in the NFL.
