Sterns is a very exciting safety prospect. He was an All-freshman in his first season but has his next two seasons plagued with injuries and COVID. Sterns possesses the ability to be a very good versatile safety due to his elite athleticism and long body type. Sterns is a strong run defender due to his intincts to hit the hole and good closing burst. He communicates well with his other defenders in the secondary. His pass defending ability is crisp with fluid hips in and out of breaks with good speed in a striaght line and laterally. Incredibly smart and instictive and can play over the top or perform well in space.
Weaknessess
Despite Sterns ability to compete in the run game, he has a tendency to overcommit in the run game which can lead to big plays. He needs to put on some weight to add pop to his tackling ability and be able to stick defenders. He does not much add much value as a down safety in run schemes and lacks physicality in blitz schemes. He does not do a great job shedding blockers and engages more than he should. Sterns does have some injury concerns and that could cause his draft stock to fall.

Big Picture
Sterns is a very intersting propsect that can be a steal in the draft. He is a top safety in all of college football when he is able to stay healthy. His has a very high football IQ and will only fall in the draft due to his injury concerns. He has great read and react coverage skills and can recover when he technique fails. Sterns athleticism and IQ will be a problem for opposing offenses at the next level. Sterns is able to play in a man and zone scheme and has excellent technique. Sterns will more than likely be a fourth or fifth round pick and that is mostly because of his injury concerns. After his freshman season, it would not have been a stretch to say he would be a first or second round pick in this draft.
