Juanyeh Thomas has a strong level of play recognition, position versatility, and communication skills. Plays a ton of aggression and confidence when he is on the field making. His confidence is shown as he is one of the leaders on this defense. Thomas has strong lateral agility which helps when he changes directions. His strength and balance is the strongest part of his athleticism. Thomas is good in zone coverage and has smooth hip fluidity. Thomas has the ability to be a playmaker. He has good closing quickness and can make stops immediately on defense and special teams. Not the best blitzer but shows flashes of his ability to find gaps.
Weaknessess
His foot quickness but it gets very sloppy at points. Needs to work more on a smoother transition when he moves side to side. Thomas struggles in man to man coverage. He has to be consistent with both his hip fluidity and recovery in coverage. He does not have the best High-Point ability when he is trying to get the football but does have some of the ball skills needed for a safety. Thomas can be dominated easily by offensive lineman and have a poor stance when engaging with blocks. Must take better angles when in pursuit of players. Can have trouble wrapping defenders. Durability is a concern as he dealt with a lower body injury during the 2018 season.
