Ford is an extremely physical defender for his size. He is an ultra physical guy, who loves to lay the lumber on anyone in his way whether it be a crossing receiver or a tail back in the open field. He is a solid defender in the run game. He has no problem taking on blockers and filling holes at the line of scrimmage. He is fast and fluid out of his breaks. Has great anticipation in zone coverage. He is great at being physical at the catch point and breaking passes up. He has a unique knack for coming up with tipped passes. He has a unique ability to stick his foot in the ground and accelerate from point A to point B. He is a high motor guy, who plays with a lot of heart and loves contact.

Weaknessess

Ford is a liability as a tackler. Too often he tries to go for the highlight reel hit, instead of wrapping up and securing the tackle. He also takes questionable pursuit angles that cause him to be grossly out of position. Ford tries to make too many big plays, causing him to be out of position a lot of the time. He tested horribly at his pro day, only clocking a 4.83 40 yard dash. This is extremely concerning and raises the question on whether he can cover anybody at the next level. He has limited reps and practice in man coverage. His character is also a concern for many teams. He was arrested for fighting a teammate over a video game back in 2017.

Big Picture

Ford is an uber physical defender, who relishes at the idea of contact. He has no problem sticking his helmet in the mix and laying the lumber on anyone who crosses his path. This makes him a legit asset in the run support game. He flashed good anticipation in zone coverage and a great ability to come up with tipped passes. He flashed decent closing quickness and hip fluidity in and out of his breaks. However, if his poor pro day numbers are an accurate reflection of his athleticism... making the jump to the NFL will be extremely difficult for Ford. His lack of speed, will hurt him in man coverage and make him a one dimensional player. Additionally, his character is a concern due to the dorm room fight with a teammate. Ford is a developmental project with some upside. His physicality and high motor will allow him to have success on special teams. He could also prove to be a good box safety to help a team in run support, but it will have to be a near perfect system fit. Ford is projected as a day 2 pick, but his pro day numbers could cause him to slide.

Ford appears to be more athletic, then his pro day results reflect. He has decent foot quickness and lateral agility that allow for him to get in and out of cuts quickly. He lacks true track speed, that teams look for in a safety. He plays extremely strong for his frame. He flashed good balance at the point of attack.
