Final Grade

Great size and length. Experience at variety of coverages and roles both in the box and secondary. Recognizes the play well and is adept at reading the QB. Closes violently on targets entering his zone. Reads run and moves downhill aggressively. Patient and keeps gap integrity in run defense. Shows great timing when asked to blitz.

Weaknessess

Hips are a bit stiff and can be slow to transition from backpedal. Too often takes poor pursuit angles. Inconsistent tackling, attempts to wrap up too high and lacks the strength to control and finish. Gets beat on double moves in man coverage, bites hard on first move and not quick enough to recover. Motor is lacking at times

Big Picture

Weatherford possesses the above average size and length to be highly intriguing as a prospect for NFL teams. Has good play recognition and instincts both in coverage and reading the run. Effective situational blitzer. Downhill player but doesn't come out of control and maintains responsibilities. Lacks the mobility and speed to cover the ground necessary as a deep safety. Must work on tackling more consistently. Needs to convert to a hybrid LB/S role to maximize skills to play more in the box and still cover TEs and smaller zones. Should be drafted in the middle of Day 3 of the NFL Draft.
