Strengths

Great hands, competitive contested catch king, plus versatility. Tough to bring down in the open field due to underrated strength. Good awareness of his positioning at all times on any given play.

Weaknessess

A limited athlete with no special attritbutes. No short game athletic prowess whatsoever. Could be limited to the outside on deep routes as a result. Struggles against press coverage. Route tree is quite limited due to offensive system.

Big Picture

Vaughns projects as a Day 3 selection with the more likely scenario being a high priority UDFA. He just doesn't have the athleticism to stick as anything more than a WR4 or WR5 at the next level. Special teams will be the key to his service in the league.

Limited in what he can do athletically as he doesn't have a lot of short area quickness nor isn't the fastest mover on deep routes. Elusivness is below average and defenders can easily keep up with him. Plays stronger than his frame indicates. Has just enough burst off the line to move corners off the line a bit.

Big Play Ability

Releases well like any decent receiver when he's not pressed at the line but he can't defeat press on the regular. USC's offense is quite simplistic in their routes so hardly any development there. Struggles to separate even against slower defenders. Has excellent body and spatial awareness to make the highlight reel catches look easy.

Plus hands. Solid catch radius that emanates when he has to make the tough contested catches due to his inability to properly separate. Very adept at high pointing the reception at its peak. Adjusts well to most poorly thrown passes and rarely drops any simple receptions.

A willing blocker that frequently seeks out a secondary target but technique is unrefined at best. Tape has shown that he can dog it in blocking assignments so that will need to be coached up. Displays adequate run after the catch ability when he is targeted in short to intermediate plays. Doesn't go down on first contact.

Intelligence:

6.50

Shows plus instincts for the position. Displays average ability to recognize different types of coverages. Position versatility is also a plus as he's seen time at both inside and outside receiver in multiple systems.
