Mayer can be very explosive immediately once the ball is snapped and has great flexibility. It is showcased with his posture when in a blocking position and catching the football. Mayer has shown moments of brilliance as a blocker, especially when blocking in space on both run and pass plays. Mayer is an extremely competitive football player as he plays with a ton of aggression, toughness, and with a motor. He has a strong catch point mentality. Mayer has a strong level of awareness and has great instincts to immediately capitalize on an opportunity. Mayer has versatility as he lined up at times at fullback and as a slot receiver. Mayer has the ability to have a great release off the line of scrimmage. He is a smooth route runner and can create separation when in coverage. What is impressive is his catch radius as he has a strong ability to reach for catches. Mayer is not the most agile and speedy player. He is now the most powerful blocker. He has to clean up his technique a bit has he is sloppy with his hand placement and his leg/power drive on blocks is not the most consistent. Mayer has to be more consistent with the speed of his release as on occasion he has a slow release. Mayer does not have the best hands and has been notable with making bad drops the past few seasons. Durability could be an issue with his groin injury he dealt with in 2021. I have Michael Mayer as a late 1st/Early 2nd round prospect in this draft class.
