Strengths

Powerful DT/NT that has a good ability to be an anchor for any defense. He takes up much space and eats up many blocks on the D-line. Good lateral movement ability on the line and can shed of blocks with power. The ability to collapse the pocket due to the high amount of pressure he forces up the middle of the pocket is there. There is a powerful bull rush in his game, but he can win with his quick hands as well. He uses his hands well to gain leverage off his opponents. He can read plays well and react with enough quickness.

Weaknessess

This is not a DT/NT that is going to win with speed. He does not have a huge closing burst. He has a slow jump off the LOS when the ball is snapped. He is not going to fool linemen with consistent stop and go pass rush moves. He does not have the best COD skills and will need to develop more flexibility in his lower body. If he does this then he will excel more at the POA when rushing the passer.

Big Picture

Christian Barmore is a DT/NT out of Alabama with incredible power, size, and strength. Barmore has the ability to take on many blocks to allow his teammates to make a stop in the run or pass. When teams run directly at him, the ability to be an anchor allows him to force the ball carrier to adjust his running lane to the outside. In purist, he is not going to chase backs down because he does not have fast closing speed. He does have quick lateral movement to get moving at a good rate around the LOS. Barmore can flash and make plays in the A and B gaps because of his lateral movement ability. He has a good set amount of power moves including a bull rush move that lets him force pressure up the middle of the pocket. Doing this makes it more challenging for the QB to step up to deliver strikes. When the ball is snapped, he lacks an explosive jump off the LOS. He is not going to beat linemen with his straight speed. Getting lower with bend in his knees at the POA will allow him to have more leverage when pass rushing. He does have quick hands that lets him separate off blocks to make plays. This is a strong defensive player that plays with a high motor and passion. He is going to improve a teams run defense if given the proper opportunity.

Athleticism:

A huge DT/NT that has a lot of strength and size. Not a whole lot of speed and explosiveness in his game. Barmore does however have nibble feet for a player of his size to move around on the D-line. Barmore’s feet help him in lateral movement and of course his lateral agility. This allows him to make plays all over the interior of the defense. He uses his upper body strength to his advantage at the POA and has good balance to hold his position against the run or pass. He does need more flexibility in his lower body to gain even more leverage at the POA.

Not a DT/NT that gets an amazing jump off the snap because he does not have that quick first step off the LOS. Barmore does not have a huge finish ability when rushing the passer because of the lack of speed. However, he does have enough quickness to run stunts and twist when rushing the passer. No doubt this is a DT/NT that is going to rush with power and use leverage to his advantage to run linemen over with bullrushes. He does a good job at collapsing the middle of the pocket to force the QB to the outside. His hands are quick and powerful. Barmore is able to slap linemen’s hands down and can rush with quick swim moves.

Against The Run:

Against the run he knows how to eat up blocks to allow his teammates to make a play on the ball carrier. When teams ran directly at him, they struggled to gain any success because he has a good anchor ability. He can shoot into gaps and knows how to push linemen backwards into the ball carrier to force them to the outside. Barmore has the ability to block shed off with straight power and quickness. The ability to reach out and grab the ball carrier to slow them down or make a tackle is present. In pursuit, he does not have the ability to chase backs down with amazing closing speed, but he can move off his blocks to make a play behind the LOS

A hard noise interior DT/NT that plays the game with a good motor. He is a tough football player that was able to win many battles in the trenches for Alabama. His play strength is very high with power. He is competitive and was able to show up for the defense in big games. Barmore did not make huge splash plays but he did show that he can make good consistent disruptive plays for his team.

The instincts to be around the ball carrier in the run game and to put pressure on the QB up the middle of the pocket was there on film. He was able to predict a lot of plays and seemed to always be pushing off his blocks in the right direction. He has a good amount of awareness and was able to eat up a good amount of blocks in short yardage situations. The recognition to determine between run or pass when a play is unfolding was evident. Barmore can play in a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme.
