Team Fit

TEN

Will make effective in-line and reach blocks because of his straight size. His size allows him to have so much power at his OT position. Was able to handle powerful pass rushers and maintain some balance when getting driven backwards. Does have an ability in using his hands to keep his blocks close to him in the run game. Better at quick sets because of the lesser steps that are needed in the blocking role.

Weaknessess

Being that trustworthy LT is worrisome because of the lack of consistency and aggressiveness shown on tape. Firing up his hands and delivering punches to keep defenders off-balance are not present in his game. Being able to handle speed rushers that can get around the bend at a fast rate needs to improve in his game. When pulling, shows a lack of motor and ability to block into the 2nd level of the defense.

Big Picture

Vederian Lowe is a project OT out of Illinois that has a lot of room for growth if he wants to be a starter in the NFL. Lowe has good size and has shown to possess enough strength to be an offensive lineman at the next level. Lowe’s best traits are shown in the run game when he makes in-line or small reach blocks near the goal line. He is able to use he hands better in the run game then the pass. However, the ability to be that cornerstone at the LT position is not present in his game as of now. Being able to handle pass rusher that know how to bend and use their speed to their advantage is a huge weakness in his game. Handling stunts in deeper drops and being able to throw jabs to keep defenders at bay needs to be incorporated more in his game. When pulling or making outside zone blocks, he tends to be too late or lacks the aggressiveness to finish his blocks. Most of the running plays were ran to the opposite side of Lowe. Finding and creating blocks in the 2nd level of the defense is critical to his improvement. This is a project player that will need time and coaching to grow into that starting OT in the NFL.

Player Comp

Athleticism:

7.25

Does not have a whole lot of quickness and lateral agility when having to move with faster pass rushers. Not quick when pulling, tends to be behind his intended blocks. Was able to be explosive with his blocks when he wanted to be. Did not always show that aggressiveness that you want to see. Did show balance when handling heavier power rushers. Flexibility does lack in the run game and tends to play too high.

Big Play Ability

Movement off the LOS does lack when it comes to the quickness that you want in starting OTs. Is better getting off the LOS when there are less steps involved in his blocking assignment. Not the ideal OT that you want making pull and outside blocks. Was able to have good reach and in-line blocks. Blocking into the 2nd level needs to be more consistent in his game. Adjusting to a defender on the fly has to be incorporated more if he wants to take that next step. Does use his hands to get that grip on a defender to drive them into the turf.

Pass Blocking:

7.04

Will be able to mirror pass rushers that have a lot less speed coming off the LOS and edge. Has a challenge handling those speed rushers that know how to work that outside shoulder. Was able to be an anchor at times, still needs to show more improvement down the road to be that trustworthy LT. Is better in quick set plays because he takes a lot less steps in his blocking assignment. Firing up his hands and delivering punches to defenders needs to happen more often. Did show some flashes of combating those inside rip or finesse moves, but still has room to grow.

More aggressiveness and toughness need to be incorporated into his game more. Does not always finish his blocks into the 2nd level of a defense. Needs to be that consistent OT that will drive and find defenders to block in the next level.

Communicating with his fellow offensive linemen is only going to help improve his game more. Stunts that were thrown his way were very effective and gave him a lot of trouble. A switch to OG may help but issues with flexibility and quickness are worrisome for that switch
